Khipu Major Chiefs close in on top spot

THE race for the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Hollywood Bets Regional League title hots up, as Khipu Major Chiefs Sports Club come close to the top of the log table.

Chiefs are chasing the log leaders, Old Grey (OG) FC, who have collected 64 points from 27 league games. Chiefs have managed to accumulate 58 points from 26 league games.

In their double header Amakhosi, as Chiefs are known, drew 2–2 with Royal Bucks at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Saturday. Amakhosi overcame Red Lions 2–0 during their game at Khayamnandi Community Grounds on Sunday.

OG FC were awarded soft points after Red Lions failed to produce players’ cards at Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday. OG FC, who set their sights on the league cup title, trounced Real Madrid FC 3–1 at SAPS Main Ground in Mount Croix on Sunday.

EC Celtics suffered a 2–1 away defeat on Saturday to Dynamos, at KwaZakhele. Celtics grabbed a tough 1–0 victory on Sunday over Camper United at Khayamnandi Community Grounds.

Following their back-to-back losses, Camper salvaged a 2–0 victory over Highland Spurs at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Saturday. As things stand, it looks as if Camper are out of the league race.

ABC Motsepe League: NMB sides suffer defeat

NONE of the three Nelson Mandela Bay sides collected three points during their ABC Motsepe League games on Saturday.

Kariega side, Hanley FC, succumbed 4–2 to the log leaders,, Sinenkani FC, during their Stream A away match at Mbhizana Stadium in Bizana. In another Stream A clash, KwaZakhele outfit Peace Makers, lost 3–1 to FC Buffalo City Relatives at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.

Stream B log leaders, Highbury FC, were held to a goalless draw by FC Siyanda at Nelson Mandela University South Campus Grounds.

Addo-based Bush Pirates FC, escaped relegation after they salvaged a 1–0 win against Seven Stars FC at Dumpy Adams Stadium in Komani.

Young Challengers secured a well-deserved 5–3 triumph over Amavarara FC during their Stream A clash at Mount Ayliff Stadium. Camdeboo Football Academy Development suffered a huge 5–1 defeat to FC Ravens at Botanic Gardens in Graaff-Reinet.

Amaxesibe FC shared a 1–1 draw with Amampondo United during their Stream B clash at Mount Ayliff Stadium. In another Stream B game, Matta Milan FC played to a goalless draw against EMI FC at Mthetheleli Ngumbela Stadium in Butterworth.

Industrial League: Fans treated to thrilling games

FOOTBALL fans were treated to six thrilling games during the Nelson Mandela Bay Industrial Football Association League on Sunday.

Purem Eberspacher handed Benteler a 5–2 defeat at Jubilee Fields in Kariega. Tenneco hammered Shatterprufe Neave Township 5–0 at Struandale Grounds. Adient PPC registered an emphatic 4–0 defeat over Shatterprufe Struandale at Struandale Grounds.

Aspen thrashed Sasko 9–1 during their one-sided game at Struandale Grounds. Durr Africa walloped BKB 7–0 at Dana Fields in Kariega. In a thrilling eight-goal clash, fans saw Continental defeat hosts Dana Spicer 5–3.

Forvia Port Elizabeth defeated Kanu 2–1 at Jubilee Fields. Forvia Uitenhage failed to pitch up for their game at Jubilee Fields against Lemaitre, who were awarded soft-points.

CRH lost 2–0 to Borbet, also at Jubilee Fields. Coega Dairy shared a 2–2 draw with Willard Auto X, while Heineken Distell snatched a 2–0 win from Fomoco Ford, both games taking place at Jubilee Fields.

Conti-Tech did not show up for their game against Dairy Group at Dana Fields.

NAFA Premier League games produce thrills and spills

NORTHERN Areas Football Association (NAFA) Premier League games attracted fans to different venues on Saturday and Sunday.

In the only Stream A game that took place on Saturday, Glenville Celtic collected three maximum league points in their 1–0 win over Blackpool AFC at Errol Heynes Grounds in Gelvandale.

Despite their 4–3 loss, Hotspurs gave a good account of themselves against Rangers at Gelvan Turf Fields on Sunday.

Park United cruised to a hard-fought 2–0 victory over Bloem Callies at Arcadia Grounds on Sunday. Helenvale United played to a 1–1 draw against West Lake FC at Helenvale Grounds also on Sunday.

All the Stream B games took place on Saturday. At Marock Road Field 1, Stardrift FC went down 2–0 to Bloemendal Stars. Fairdene FC drubbed Fairview Rovers 4–0 at Finnis Field 1. Saints trounced Shamrocks FC 3–0 at Saints Grounds in Gelvandale. Apex FC claimed a convincing 3–0 victory against Windvogel All Stars at Finnis 2 Field.
