ANC Ward 20 Councillor, Anele Bell, dug deep into his pockets to buy 18 pairs of soccer boots and a coaching manual for the Zwide community club, Everton FC, on Thursday.

Bell, who played for Golden Arrows FC during his youth days, said that Everton FC wrote him a letter in which they requested 18 pairs of football boots.

Bell stated that he decided to fund the project himself. Bell said, “I fully understand the challenges faced by the community clubs.

“These clubs are normally run by certain individuals because these clubs have no financial muscle. Our support to our community clubs as councillors, will help to keep our children away from taking part in criminal activities.

“Above all, sport is used as a tool to unite the community members and to fight crime. So, I decided to buy 18 pairs of soccer boots and a coaching manual for Everton FC.”

Everton FC president, Mzikayise ‘Chippa’ Quntu, thanked Bell for the donation.

“I am very happy that our councillor, as a yesteryear player, who grew up here in Zwide, understands all the challenges faced by our players. He has made a huge contribution to our players.

“The majority of our players are learners who come from the poor of the poorest homes.

“It is the first time that a ward councillor here in Zwide has used his own money to buy football boots. This generous donation of football boots that is made possible to our club means a lot to our players.

“These boys are motivated and their confidence is boosted by Bell. On behalf of the club, I wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our Bell. He sets a good example (for people in his ward),” said Quntu.
