CHAIRMAN Mzuvukile Khesi told PE Express in Motherwell NU 9 on Thursday that he had changed Volcano Ladies’ Football Club into a sports club.

Khesi said there were children who were not interested in playing soccer and he discovered that some girls in his community enjoyed playing netball, and some boys used to play soccer in the streets.

“I decided to turn my club into a sports club. Our children have different talents, but nobody would come aboard to unearth the different talents that are bestowed in our children,” said Khesi. “Therefore, I told myself that I would not let the talents of our children perish while I am still alive.”

Khesi stated that he has already started forming a soccer team and netball teams. He also said that he agreed with some boys in his community who had approached him, that they would like to have a basketball team under Volcano. He highlighted that keeping children busy in sport was the best way of uniting community members.

Khesi has changed a garage into a players’ sleeping room, for those who come from other towns. In most cases, Khesi digs deep in his pocket to run his Volcano LFC, which campaigns in the Sasol League Coastal Stream, and his ladies’ regional team that plays in SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s League.

He also highlighted that Carbon Engineered Carbons and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality also play an important role in keeping his club active.

He thanked soccer coach, Mkhuseli Qalanto, and netball coaches, Thenjiwe Yoyo and Tshidi Khuele, for the active role that they are playing in changing Volcano into a sports club.
