FOLLOWING their excellent form during the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay 2019 season, Motherwell-based Volcano Ladies’ FC won the Women’s Regional League title on Sunday by a five-point margin.

After playing 26 games, the Motherwell lasses accumulated 67 league points, won 21 games, drew four matches and lost only one encounter.

Their runners-up, Madibaz Football, played 25 games in which they collected 62 points, with them winning 19 games, drawing five games and losing one game as well.

Volcano were held to a 1-1 draw by Madibaz Football in their last game of the league at the Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Sunday.

Volcano were under immense pressure, as Madibaz kept on knocking on their door.

Madibaz had the lion’s share of ball possession in the entire first half.

Striker Kamogelo Mamabolo broke the ice for Madibaz after she scored a spectacular goal in the first half.

Siphokazi Ngogela played a tremendous role in building up the Madibaz goal.

Madibaz remained untouchable in the second half.

As the time went on, the visitors decided to defend in numbers. Consequently, Volcano took the game to Madibaz.

The home side were awarded a free kick and Volcano skipper, Babalwa Peter, made no mistake as she unleashed a long range shot that beat Madibaz’ goalkeeper in the dying stages of the game.

The Motherwell side has progressed to the provincial play-offs, however the date, venue and opponents have not yet been announced by SAFA Eastern Cape.
