VICTORIA Park High School showed that they are a force to be reckoned with when they won the inaugural Urban/EnviroServ Waste Management soccer tournament at Nelson Mandela University, in Summerstrand, on Saturday.

Six schools from across the Nelson Mandela Bay region were invited to participate in the tournament. It came as no surprise when Victoria Park High School demolished the hosts, Urban Academy, 4-0 in what was described as an easy game.

VP took on foes, Bethelsdorp Comprehensive School, and managed a 1-0 win in their tough battle. VP’s next match against Ndzondelelo High was even tougher, as they played to a 1-1 draw.

On Saturday morning, fans saw VP overcome Happy Homes Academy 2-0 in their one-sided clash, before taking on Newton Technical High School for an easy 2–0 win.

In the finals, VP faced a confident Ndzondelelo High, who had the lion’s share of ball possession. VP, however, gave them a tough time on the counter-attacks.

VP scored a goal in each half to seal the game at 2–0. Zinedine de Kock was voted player and top goal scorer of the tournament.

VP head coach, Ralton Leander, commended his boys for winning the tournament. “My boys did not lose any games because we were well prepared for the tournament.”
