The Sardinia Bay area in Gqeberha remains under significant threat from veld fires that started yesterday, February 28. These fires persistently affect densely vegetated areas, worsened by windy conditions.
Nelson Mandela Bay spokesperson, Mtubanzi Mniki, said that the Sardinia Bay area is still severely impacted by intense fires. However, municipal firefighters and traffic service teams from Nelson Mandela Bay are working to bring the situation under control.
” We are pleased to share that fires in the Sappershoek area have been extinguished but there have been sporadic fires.
” The Schoenmakerskop area is still burning, and the challenge is the densely vegetated areas, and the wind is not helping,” said Mniki.
” We do not have a report on injuries at the moment, but we are pleased with the efforts that have been made due to our teams and they are still on site,” he concluded.
