Mixed martial arts champion Dricus du Plessis married Vasti Spiller on 10 October at the La Paris estate near Franschhoek in what became one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.
The intimate ceremony drew Afrikaans entertainment and sports royalty, with musician Ricus Nel among the first to share glimpses of the special day on social media, dubbing it the “wedding of the year”.
The bride wore two custom wedding dresses designed by Anél Botha, with makeup created by Willem Botha. Du Plessis and his groomsmen looked sharp in bespoke suits crafted by Frank Bespoke.
The guest list read like a who’s who of South African entertainment and sport. Singers Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld, actress Liza Nel, musician Cézaan Sonnekus, former Springbok captain Victor Matfield and his wife Monja, EFC middleweight fighter Diego Bandu and boxer Stephanus Daniel Pypers were among those celebrating with the couple.
Each guest received a personal portrait as a memento of the day, adding a unique touch to the elegant affair. The newlyweds created an atmosphere guests described as intimate and filled with visible love.
The couple’s love story began at a gym where they first met. Du Plessis proposed to Spiller on his 31st birthday last year, setting the stage for their October wedding.
Social media buzzed with wedding moments shared by guests, though the couple has not yet released their official wedding photos, leaving room for more surprises to come.
Du Plessis has previously expressed his dream of becoming a father, and the newlyweds now begin their married life together following the celebration that captivated South African social media.
