A suspect (32) was arrested by SAPS Gelvandale on charges of arson and attempted murder after an incident that occurred on Saturday, 4 October 2025 in Malabar.
SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said that according to preliminary information, it is alleged that on the above-mentioned date at approximately 18:30, SAPS Gelvandale responded to a complaint of a shack that was burning in Maca, Extension 6, Malabar.
“On arrival, the fire department was busy extinguishing the fire,” she said. “The members were further informed that two females aged 25 and 29 sustained injuries during the fire and were taken to the hospital for treatment.”
Janse Van Rensburg added that it was further alleged that the suspect had an argument with one of the victims before throwing petrol on the floor and setting the shack alight with the females inside.
The suspect (32) was arrested yesterday, 5 October, on charges of arson and attempted murder and will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court this week.
