The Gqeberha K9 unit arrested two suspects following the murder of an 87-year-old man on Saturday evening, 12 June in Walmer.
According to Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, police spokesperson, it is alleged that the daughters of the deceased, Richard Adams (87), visited his home at approximately 18:30 in the evening.
“On arrival at the residence, they knocked on the door with no one answering. They became suspicious when they saw movement in the house. They immediately contacted the 10111 centre and Gqeberha K9 unit were the first responders,” Janse van Rensburg said.
The police gained access to the property with keys provided by the daughters. “Upon entering the property, the members found one male suspect, aged 36, and one female suspect, aged 28, in the house.”
As the police continued with their search inside the house, they had to force a locked bedroom door open and that is where they found the deceased Adam, wrapped in a blanket.
“Although he had multiple stab wounds, the cause of death will only be determined during the post mortem. Both suspects were immediately arrested on charges of murder and the investigation is still ongoing,” Janse van Rensburg added.
The circumstances surrounding the incident will form part of the investigation.
The suspects will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court during the week once they have been charged.
