Two suspects arrested for alleged business robbery in Helenvale

Teamwork between SAPS Gelvandale Detectives and their Vispol members led to the recent arrest of two suspects within 48 hours after the business robbery was reported.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on Thursday, October 27, at approximately 04:30 in Fitchard Street, Helenvale, the complainant was waiting for a bread delivery and left the door of the shop open.

“Two armed suspects entered the shop, pointing the complainant with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of cash and a few loose cigarettes. As the suspects fled, the complainant chased after them, but they fired a shot and ran toward Voisen Road.  No one was injured during the robbery,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

“The SAPS Gelvandale detective who attended the scene requested the assistance of the Vispol members as he followed up on information that led to the arrest of the first suspect on the same day at approximately 12:00. The second suspect was apprehended on Saturday, October 29 at 08:40.”

Both suspects, aged 18 and 37, were detained on charges of business robbery and will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate Court on Monday, October 31.
