Two security guards were shot and killed, and two others injured whilst escorting a bread delivery truck in Joe Slovo this morning, July 12.

The four security guards were travelling in Mzwandile Street at approximately 11:00 when their unmarked vehicle, a Mazda 323, was allegedly blocked by a white Toyota Avanza. The Mazda collided with a wall before coming to a halt.

Two of the guards, aged 30 and 44 years, were shot and killed by the suspects, while the other two, aged 37 and 28 years, sustained gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that there were approximately five male suspects. They allegedly took three .38 revolvers from the security guards, jumped into the Avanza and sped off.

“The next-of-kin of the deceased are yet to be notified,” Naidu said.

Local police have implemented the 72-hour activation plan following the incident. The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Gqeberha is investigating two cases of murder, two of attempted murder and a case of robbery of firearms.
