Two students from Eastcape Midlands TVET College (EMC)’s High Street campus have been reported missing after they were reportedly last seen leaving with a friend whose car was allegedly swept away by the recent floods.

Fortunately, the friend has been rescued.

According to a statement issued by Elmari van de Merwe, Assistant Director: Marketing and Communications at EMC, the students, who are both enrolled in the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 2 program, with one studying Marketing and the other Tourism, have not been seen since Saturday night.

“The disappearance of the students was reported to campus authorities on Monday, prompting immediate action. Following this report, the case was brought to the attention of the police, who have since launched a comprehensive search through their Search and Rescue Unit. The College, together with the police, is taking all necessary steps to locate the missing students,” said Van de Merwe.

According to Van de Merwe, the College management is also in constant communication with the students’ families during this time. Should anyone have any information that could assist in the search, please report it immediately to College management or directly to the police.

Counselling services have been made available for any staff or students who may need support or someone to talk to.

“Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and alma mater of the missing students during this difficult time,” said Van de Merwe.
