Two men were killed and three injured after a shooting incident in Malabar during the early hours of this morning, November 15.

Just before 01:00, a group of men allegedly broke down the door of a house in Calvert Street looking for the owner’s son. Four occupants in the house managed to escape while the five victims were rounded up and shot in the kitchen.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that Ruben Stuurman (28) and Yano Richards (24) sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. The injured victims, aged between 20 and 26 years old, were taken to hospital.

“The motive for the shootings is under investigation and suspects are unknown at this stage,” Naidu said.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj.Gen. Vuyisile Ncata, immediately implemented the 72-hour activation planning following the shooting.

He urged the team of investigators to track and trace the perpetrators in the quickest time possible.

“We are appealing to the communities to assist police in tracing these heartless criminals and not to harbour them. Lives have been lost and we cannot condone such lawlessness. This act of criminality we take seriously and it will not be tolerated,” he said.
