THE Kariega rugby teams of Brandwag and Daniel Pienaar will get their chance to return to winning ways on Saturday.

Both teams had tough encounters with Gqeberha teams this past weekend and will be eager to produce the goods on their respective home fields.

Brandwag will be hosting Ithembelihle and Graeme College will be visiting Daniel Pienaar.

Framesby was too strong for Brandwag this past Saturday, winning 43-7 and scoring six tries against one.

Tristan Afrika made a dream debut for Framesby on the right wing at his home ground. He scored a hat-trick of tries in his very first appearance for the first team.

Janco van der Walt (centre) was outstanding and scored four tries in Pearson’s victory of 40-15 over Daniel Pienaar in Kariega.

Graeme College scored five tries on their way to a 31-0 victory in the match against Ithembelihle in Makhanda.

The best try was probably the individual effort of fly half Lagon Oerson, who dummied his way through many defenders. Both camps acknowledged afterwards that the result wasn’t a true reflection of the match and that Ithembelihle was very gutsy in a competitive match.

The Eastern Province selectors named the u/18 Craven week squad last week and preparations will now be stepped up for the tournament that starts on July 4 in Rondebosch.

The side will be captained by Liselihle Maphekula of Graeme College and coached by Elric van Vuuren of Despatch.

Upcoming fixtures:

Saturday: Daniel Pienaar v Graeme College, Brandwag v Ithembelihle, Dale College v Kingswood.

Last week’s First XV results:

Framesby 43, Brandwag 7; Pearson 40, Daniel Pienaar 15; Marlow 51, Hudson Park 14; Graeme College 31, Ithembelihle 0; Queen’s College 20, St Andrew’s College 8.

Moment of the week: Tristan Afrika’s dream debut for Framesby, scoring a hat-trick of tries.
