GQEBERHA –Three people were murdered in a home on Oregon Street in Fairview last night, 13 August.

According to a statement issued by Atlas Security, an anonymous caller alerted Atlas members and police at about 22:07 on 13 August, and units were dispatched to the scene. “On arrival, first responders discovered what they described as a murder scene,” the statement explained.

Initial reports by Atlas stated that the suspects are believed to have gained entry by breaking through wooden fencing and removing a window. “Once inside, the attackers violently assaulted the occupants, resulting in three fatalities. The weapon used is suspected to have been a panga or sword, and a firearm may also have been involved,” the statement revealed.

Atlas Security further revealed that the homeowner fired shots at the suspects before one of the attackers took the firearm prior to the murders.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg added that the murder victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds and multiple open wounds to the head.

Van Rensburg stated that at this point, the motive for the attack remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. “Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.”

Speaking to the Express, the girlfriend of one of the deceased men said they and a few other people had arrived at the house at 05:00. Visibly distraught, she was not willing to speak further.

According to an anonymous neighbour, there have been a few police operations at the house in the months prior to the murder.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Serious and Violent Crime unit in Gqeberha has opened a murder investigation following the fatal incident.

The names of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have officially identified them.
