GQEBERHA – A carjacking ended in tragedy when three men kidnapped in KwaNobuhle were later found shot dead in Bethelsdorp.

According to police, the carjacking occurred on Sunday, 26 April at approximately 20:30 in Vukukhanye Crescent, KwaNobuhle.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said that a group of five armed suspects approached four men who were seated inside a white Mazda 323.

“The suspects, two of whom were armed with firearms, pointed the weapons at the victims and demanded money and cellphones,” she said.

One of the suspects then allegedly took control of the vehicle and drove off with three of the occupants still inside, leaving one victim behind.

Van Rensburg added that the vehicle was later found abandoned in Algoa Road.

“On Monday, 27 April, at around 11:00, police were called to a bushy area near Old Uitenhage Road at the Salt Dams in Bethelsdorp, where the bodies of three men were discovered.

“Two victims were found lying close to each other, while a third was located a few metres away after police followed a trail of blood,” Janse van Rensburg said.

Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the deceased are the same men taken during the KwaNobuhle carjacking.

Police have opened cases of carjacking, kidnapping and triple murder. No arrests have been made and the suspects remain at large.
