A dedicated detective at SAPS Humewood left no stone unturned on his hunt for the third suspect involved in the attack and robbery of an Atlas security official, including a string of crimes that followed on May 29 in Western Road, Central.
On Monday, May 29, at about 20:30, three suspects attacked and robbed the security officer of his service pistol.
He was also severely beaten.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, police spokesperson, the suspects continued on their crime rampage when two robbed two students of their cellphones and laptops at their flat in Belmont Terrace.
“Later that same evening, a 29-year-old man was shot in his buttocks in St Patrick Street and then at about 22:40, Loyiso Sinandile (29) was shot and killed in Albany Road,” Naidu said.
Two suspects have since been arrested and are remanded in custody.

On Thursday, June 22, D/Const Ridwaan Baatjies, who is on vacation, received a call about a robbery at a flat in Military Road,Central.
“It is alleged that four men robbed a 49-year-old complainant of his jewellery, cell phone and wallet. With the assistance of various units (Gqeberha K9 unit, Flying Squad, SAPS Mount Road Task Team and Crime Prevention Unit, SAPS Humewood Crime Prevention Unit and detectives, and a private security company), three suspects were swiftly apprehended.
“Further investigation led the team to Kudu Flats in Sidwell. When the fourth suspect spotted police, he jumped off the second floor of the flats. He was apprehended.”
Some of the stolen property and two replica firearms were found in his possession.
Baadjies also arrested this suspect, who was the third suspect involved in the attacks on May 29.
“The 26-year-old suspect was detained for armed robbery. He will also be charged with armed robbery, robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, house robbery, attempted murder and murder.”
A member from the K9 unit also arrested a 25-year-old man while on the scene for possession of drugs. He was found in possession of Tik and Dagga.
All four suspects, aged between 19 and 28, will appear on their respective charges in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 26.
