Some of the best race horses in the province will contest the Founders Trophy on Friday afternoon on the Fairview Polytrack in Greenbushes.

This race, over 1 600m, has been won by top horses in the past, and it is again going to take some effort to get into the number box.

It is race six of eight and should be the highlight of the meeting. There is no doubt it will be another exciting day at the races, as we have seen some very competitive and exciting racing at Fairview lately.

The stables of Alan Greeff and Gavin Smith again came out on top this past Friday, but they were pushed all the way by the other trainers who are pulling out all the stops to pick up a win. Together Greeff and Smith won five of the eight races, but trainers, Kelly Mitchley, Duncan McKenzie and Lunga Gila, also caught the eye by winning a race each.

At seven years of age many race horses are enjoying their retirement, but We All Chomies is clearly enjoying life in the Gila yard. He looked an absolute picture and ran accordingly.

There are so many talented and experienced trainers at Fairview, and it is no surprise that some of the top stables elsewhere in the country are always looking to lure some of them elsewhere.

Five Fairview meetings are left in the year, after a Tuesday meeting was recently added to the regular Friday events. With free entry and great hospitality specials available, visitors are in for a festive afternoon at the races.

Local racing fans are also keeping an eye on the Western Cape Summer Season and it is good to see Fairview horses travelling to the Kenilworth track in Cape Town to compete with the best.

The three-year-old filly, Three Rocks, trained by Greeff, produced a wonderful run to take third place in the Southern Cross Stakes this past Saturday.

We are looking forward to seeing other Bay horses performing in Cape Town. Another Greeff-trained three-year-old filly, Joy and Peace, runs at Kenilworth today and should do well.
