GQEBERHA – Township entrepreneurs in Motherwell will learn how to manage teams and build sustainable businesses at a workshop on Saturday, 10 October.

The TEA Kasi Business Workshop will be held at 1 Bhungane Street, Motherwell NU2, starting at 09:00.

It forms part of Season 4 of the “How to Series.” The workshop’s theme, “How to Manage a Team,” addresses a challenge that many township business owners face as their enterprises grow beyond the owner-operated stage.

Bulelani Balabala, founder and CEO of the Township Entrepreneur Agency (TEA) said for many township entrepreneurs, growth starts with the owner doing everything, serving customers, handling finances, marketing the business and managing operations.

“When employees are brought in, a new challenge emerges: how do you become a manager when you have never been taught how to manage a team?โ€

He said they will unpack why managing people becomes one of the biggest challenges when township businesses move beyond the owner-operated stage.

โ€œI will also discuss how entrepreneurs can identify the right people for the right roles, even when budgets are limited and why unclear responsibilities and poor communication can directly affect productivity and customer service.”

Balabala will share practical ways small-business owners can improve accountability without creating a toxic workplace and why entrepreneurs need to shift from “doing everything” to building teams that can operate without them.

The workshop will also explore how better people management can help township businesses create sustainable jobs and scale.

โ€œThe event offers an opportunity to look beyond the usual narrative of township entrepreneurship and focus on what happens after a business starts growing, the management, people and leadership challenges that come with creating jobs and building sustainable enterprises.”
