The Nelson
Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit was swift to arrest three suspects
who allegedly robbed a man delivering chips to a Quick Shop at a garage in Rink
Street yesterday morning, February 15.

It is
alleged that at about 11:00, the complainant (28) was delivering and also
stacking the shelves inside the shop when five males approached and verbally
threatened him. He was ordered to drive his vehicle around the corner where
they loaded boxes of chips to the value of R1 550 into a VW Polo.

Police
spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that the vehicle was immediately
circulated by a private security company and within ten minutes, the District
CCU members and security company spotted the vehicle stationary in Albany Road,
North End.

“Three
males were seated inside the vehicle. The police members cautiously approached
the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and several cell phones, a tablet, laptop
and bankcards were found inside,” Naidu explained.

“The
suspects, aged 25-27 years, were arrested on a charge of robbery and the possession
of suspected stolen property. Police will be probing a possible link to house
robberies committed in the KwaZakhele and Motherwell areas,” she added.

The vehicle
was impounded for further investigation. The arrested suspects are expected to
appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court soon.
