Suspects flee with cell phones, clothing following robbery at Metlife Mall

One person was held at gunpoint and forced along with two employees to lie down on the floor during a robbery at a shop at Metlife Mall this morning, April 20.

According to police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, at approximately 09:00, the complainant and two employees were in the shop when one suspect entered the shop, pretending to be a customer.

A second suspect entered wearing a black mask, walked to the cell phone cabinet and allegedly approached the complainant and pointed a firearm at her, before forcing her and the two employees to lie down.

“The suspect used a hammer and smashed the cabinet with the cell phones. They fled with cell phones and clothing from the shop,” Janse van Rensburg said.

SAPS Kabega Park opened a case of business robbery that is under investigation.  

Anyone that can assist with information related to the robbery, is asked to contact SAPS Kabega Park on on 082 302 6112, SAPS Walmer on 041 581 1496 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. They can also visit the nearest police station. 

Meanwhile, Bester Emergency Medical Services confirmed that they attended to the scene of a robbery at Sportscene at Metlife Mall this morning. 

Bester EMS said that there were no serious injuries but that the three victims will be taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
