Suspected stolen property to the value of approximately R300 000 was found in a house in Ikamvelihle following the investigation of a hijacking yesterday, September 12.
According to police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, members of the Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit received of an Opel Kadett that was hijacked in Uitenhage Road, KwaDwesi Extension, at approximately 11:00.
The members immediately acted on the information they received and upon arrival at a house in Mqowa Street, Ikamvelihle, they found the suspect jumping over the fence.
“Upon searching the suspect, the members recovered live 9mm ammunition. The members searched the house where the suspect was found and recovered the following suspected stolen items, 56 cell phones, 49 DSTV decoders, 30 universal chargers, 45 power banks for cell phones, a Samsung tablet, two laptops with bags, a canon printer, computer keyboards and a Wi-Fi router with an estimated value of R300 000,” Janse van Rensburg said. “The suspect was unable to provide any information or proof of purchase.”
She added that it was later established that the complainant in the hijacking was busy with deliveries in KwaDwesi and surroundings. While stationary at the corner of Mkwenkwe and Uitenhage Road, he was approached by three suspects, one armed with a firearm. The complainant was allegedly forced out of his vehicle and the suspects drove off with the Opel Kadett with all the contents inside. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the Joe Slovo area.
The suspect was detained and will appear in the Motherwell Magistrates Court during the week.
