A male suspect (45) who was arrested for shooting a pregnant KFC employee in Zwide recently appeared at the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court on January 22.
He is expected to appear in court again on January 28 for his formal bail application.
According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge, the incident happened on Koyana Street on January 13 at about 23:15, where the 35-year-old woman, who was four months pregnant at the time, was shot at through the drive-through by the male suspect.
“Despite being wounded in the stomach, the victim remains in stable condition, and fortunately, her unborn child was unharmed,” Beetge added.
Following the incident, an attempted murder case was opened and investigated by SAPS Kwazakele.
According to Beetge, Kwazakele detectives identified the suspect, who was arrested on January 20 in Kwazakele.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, praised the swift and decisive actions of the investigative team.
“Crimes against our women and children, along with violent offenses involving firearms, remain a top priority in our fight against crime. This incident deeply disturbed both the community and our police members. The suspect’s arrest is a crucial step in ensuring justice is served,” said Ncata.
