A suspect was arrested after being found in possession of an AK47 in Algoa Park yesterday afternoon, Monday, April 4.
SAPS Algoa Park members received information about suspicious people roaming around a shopping centre and parking area in this vicinity at approximately 15:45.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that the SAPS Algoa Park sector manager and crime prevention unit responded.
“As the alleged suspects noticed the police officers, they dropped a bag and started to move away from the area on foot. An officer searched the bag and found an AK47 with ammunition. With the assistance from the crime prevention members they arrested one suspect (37) on charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” Janse van Rensburg said.
