SUBS played their hearts out, despite their 1-0 loss to Spear of the Nation FC, during their ABC Motsepe League clash at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.
The home side were not scared of the log leaders, as they played exciting football. Spears wanted to finish the game in the first half but SUBS were ready to take them on. Spears’ captain, Sbongeleni Gamede, and Siyanda Khumalo played quick one-twos in the midfield.
Gamede supplied a good pass to his left winger, Lwando Gxaba, who scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute.
Spears kept on passing the ball but could not penetrate the defence of SUBS, with their goalkeeper, Lindokuhle Grimes, standing his ground throughout the game.
SUBS strikers were the lone rangers, as they were isolated by the midfielders, so much so that they did not get any glorious opportunities. SUBS super substitute, Xhantilomzi Xelani, sent a salvo that nearly beat the visitors’ goalkeeper, Khethukuthula Hadebe, in the last minutes of the game.
