“GRADUATING this year was not exactly what I anticipated, yet it was still the most amazing feeling ever. All the late nights, hard work, blood, sweat and tears finally came to fruition.”

These words came from Erin September (IIE Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching graduate) who received her certificate at The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth campus’s recent drive-through graduation.

“Even though I would’ve loved to celebrate with family and friends, COVID-19 had other plans. At the end of day, as (the singer) Beyonce says: ‘Always stay gracious. Best revenge is your paper.’ And for my ‘paper’, I am eternally grateful,” she said.

The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth graduation ceremony, which was originally scheduled for April 9, was cancelled due to the Covid-19 national lockdown.

“The drive-through collection of the graduates’ certificates was just a small way of celebrating their achievements as we know each one of them worked hard in achieving this important milestone in their lives,” said Naude Loots, head of academic operations for The IIE Varsity College PE.

“We wish we could have celebrated with our graduates by way of our usual formal graduation ceremony. What a pleasure it was to see some of our graduates briefly and exchange a few words,” said Loots.

“On behalf of The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth team, congratulations, and we wish all our graduates the best of luck as they continue on their journey,” concluded Paul Manson, campus head of the IIE’s Varsity College PE.
