THE IIE’s Varsity College is currently co-hosting the first-ever Virtual Grad Expo, in collaboration with the South African Graduate Employers Association (SAGEA) and 17 other higher education institutions across South Africa.
The purpose of the Virtual Grad Expo is to provide final-year students with the opportunity to connect with top employers regarding bursaries, part-time employment and graduate opportunities for 2021.
On July 21, the first day of the expo, 6 398 students from 21 universities engaged in the Virtual Grad Expo.
Students had the opportunity to attend company webinars, view and apply for career opportunities and engage in public or private conversations via the chat function.
Andrea van den Berg, career centre manager at The IIE’s Varsity College Cape Town national office, said, “With the current pandemic we were forced to look at new ways of connecting our final year students with top employers.
“The IIE’s Varsity College career centre is excited to be partnering with SAGEA, to provide our students with the opportunity to engage in the Virtual Grad Expo.”
A total of 316 The IIE’s Varsity College final year students participated in the expo on July 21.
Thursday, July 29, saw career centre co-ordinator, Tamzyn Redcliffe, at The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth, in charge of the Chat Box which included assisting students with questions and queries regarding the Virtual Grad Expo.
“Our students have an opportunity to receive first-hand information on possible graduate programmes and internships that these organisations have and they can actively apply for these positions directly, using the ‘apply’ function made available on the platform,” concluded Redcliffe.
The expo comprises three digital pavilions: the General Pavilion, Accounting Pavilion and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Pavilion via the Zoom platform. The last session takes place tomorrow, Thursday, August 13.
