A fourth year IIE Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching student at IIE’S Varsity College PE, Tara Meintjies, was crowned the winner of the campus’s recent Creativity Competition. The theme was ‘COVID-19 – United We Stand’. Sharing the story behind her winning art piece, Meintjies said, ‘My inspiration came from the struggle that women endure, regardless of race and through a pandemic that everyone is affected by. IIE’S Varsity College Port Elizabeth student, Tara Meintjies was recently crowned the winner of the campus’ recent Creativity Competition for her artwork.

Under the theme, ‘COVID–19 – United We Stand’, the competition allowed students to enter one of three categories: drawing, painting or poetry. Meintjies artwork stood out from the rest.

Sharing the story behind her winning art piece, Meintjies, a 4th year IIE Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching student said, “My inspiration came from the struggle that women endure regardless of race and through a pandemic that everyone is affected by. It is important to rather unite to create an image of beauty rather than violence.”

IIE’s Varsity College Student Relations manager, Jaci Howell said that the purpose of competition was to provide students with a platform to express themselves, “To remind them that self care is important and there are fun ways one can use to cope with stress during this time.”
