FIVE days of family entertainment will kick off the holiday season for cricket fans when the Proteas face Sri Lanka in the second of two Tests from December 5 until 9 at the Dafabet St George’s Park Cricket Stadium.
According to St George’s Park Stadium event coordinator, Leigh Deyzel, in a press release, “This promises to be a treat for fans of the longer, traditional game – with entertainment added for the whole family over the weekend,”
Eastern Province Cricket (EPC) President, Donovan May, adds that it will be the last chance for Eastern Cape cricket fans to experience an international game. He has called on local cricket fans to “fill the stadium” in support of the Proteas as they will want a win in the current series in preparation for their international tournaments over the following year.
“It is also a privilege for the Nelson Mandela Bay metro to be able to stage a five-day Test Match during the December holiday period. They are both good teams, and the spectators should be treated to some entertaining and excellent cricket.”
South Africa last played Sri Lanka in 2021, with South Africa winning the first Test by 621 runs and the second by 10 wickets.
“Sri Lanka comes to this series with an impressive record in 2024, having beaten New Zealand in two Tests, England in one, Bangladesh in two, and Afghanistan in one. The Proteas will appreciate all the support they can get from the Dafabet St George’s cricket fans,” said Deyzel.
“The Proteas have a very good record at St George’s, and our fans create an atmosphere and vibe that is second to none.”
Special treat for the ladies
As a special treat for the ladies, the stadium will be hosting “Bubbalicious Cricket” on Friday, December 6; strictly for over 18s. Tickets cost R300, and ladies will be treated to a day out at the game with beverages, catering, giveaways, and prizes.
The weekend will feature activities for the whole family, with a kids’ play area and beverage specials for the mums and dads. Tickets for the game range from R60 to R140 per day and are available through Ticketpro and at the stadium.
“After the rains, the pitches and outfield are in great condition for the tactical five-day game,” Deyzel added.
