An inmate at St Albans Correctional Facility in Nelson Mandela Bay has been causing a stir on social media after allegedly posting pictures of himself online.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) said that they had confiscated the inmate’s cell phone after it was allegedly used to ” flamboyantly post his image on social media.”
The inmate has been moved to a Special Care Unit for the purposes of an investigation and will formally be charged.
“Mobile phones are defined as contraband in correctional centres; hence illegal access and usage is a punishable offence,” the DCS said.
“The said inmate will also face other charges for tailoring offender uniform as this is against DCS policies. DCS is deeply incensed by this behaviour and there shall be strong action and consequences,” the department said.
