Walmer Park Shopping Centre will undertake its eighth redevelopment in 38 years, upgrading and reimagining key spaces to better serve the Gqeberha community and reinforce its role as one of regionโs premier shopping destinations.
Owned and managed by Growthpoint Properties, construction will begin in March and is scheduled for completion by November, ahead of the 2026 festive season.
The upcoming redevelopment will bring greater retail variety and an improved experience for shoppers in the community it has served for nearly four decades. This new phase reflects a continued commitment to evolving with the needs of its loyal customers and the wider Nelson Mandela Bay region.

Set to bring a mix of fresh retail offerings, the redevelopment will introduce new-to-market fashion brands – some unique to Walmer Park and debuting in Gqeberha for the first time. Details of these brands will be announced in the coming weeks.
Shoppers can also look forward to a refreshed tenant mix, including a revamped Edgars store in a newly optimised space, a modernised @Home furniture store in a new location in the mall, and additional new retailers.
Several much-loved stores will also be unveiling updated concepts and expanded ranges. Totalsports, Slops and Clogs, Cape Union Mart, and the iStore are among the retailers enhancing their in-centre presence with contemporary store designs and broader product offerings.
Beyond the introduction of new brands, the redevelopment includes significant upgrades to the shopping environment. Plans include an internal reconfiguration to improve flow and access, upgraded areas throughout the centre, and a new mall passage that will accommodate additional stores.
