Four people have been killed and one seriously injured during shootings that happened at a traditional ceremy in Tsolo on Saturday.
Police are now looking for three suspects who shot the five people in the Magutywa Administrative Area in Tsolo.
Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, confirmed that the incident happened while the family held a traditional ceremony.
He said reports indicated that a group of three unidentified men, who drove a silver Toyota double cab bakkie, arrived at the homestead where the traditional ceremony was held at about 17:45.
“Two of the suspects, who are alleged to have been carrying an AK47 and a pistol, proceeded to the yard whilst one remained in the vehicle. It is alleged that they started shooting at three men aged between 28 and 78 who died instantly.
“It is further alleged that the suspects drove around in the same village where they came across another man, aged 28, whom they shot and seriously injured. The person was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition,” Kinana said.
According to police information, the suspects proceeded further to a house in the same area where they shot and killed another man, aged 73, who is believed to be linked to the first four family members who were attacked earlier.
Kinana said the motive for the killing has not yet been established.
Cases of murder and attempted murder have been registered at the Tsolo SAPS for investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage.
