SPEAR of the Nation FC goalkeeper Simiso Ndlela nearly cost his side victory, after he conceded a silly goal that helped the home side, Bisho Stars FC, score an equaliser in their ABC Motsepe League clash that ended in 2-1 at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday.

The goal conceded by Ndlela happened after he wanted to dribble one of Stars’ players, failing to pass the ball to his captain, Mthobisi Msomi, as Siphamandla Klaassen intercepted his pass and sent a volley into the empty net in the 56th minute.

Ndlela’s mistake cancelled the lead of his side, following their striker, Sifundo Dlamini’s goal in the first 30 minutes of the game.

Spears’ super substitute Nhlakanipho Ngubane was very effective. Ngubane’s inclusion into the fray motivated his side. Stars also searched for their winning goal. Spears’ midfielder, Athenkosi Banti, laid a solid pass to Ngubane who scored the winning goal in the 86th minute, which helped his side to claim the all-important 2-1 away win.

In another tough game, Lion City FC shared a goalless draw with BCM Stars at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday. Early in the first half, City could have led 1-0 but Zithulele Ala Mhlontlo was denied a scoring opportunity by the former Lion City goalkeeper, Qhama Lizani.

In the dying minutes of the game, City were denied a goal scoring opportunity by the first assistant referee, who judged Freedom Funani as being offside after the ball hit one of Stars’ defenders.

The match official’s decision caused a big uproar because Funani could have won the game.
