As part of his outreach programme, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor Nqaba Bhanga Mayor Bhanga recently donated puppy and kitten food to a local SPCA in Uitenhage.
During his visit, he called upon residents and private businesses to support the SPCA by donating to their needs.
“It was a humbling experience to visit the SPCA, interact with staff and animals that are getting good care here. However it was clear to me that this place needs more assistance. If we are all to achieve the commitment of being a City that cares, it has to include the way we take care of our animals,” Bhanga said.
As part of improving conditions of the facility, the Municipality has budgeted close to one million rand for refurbishments.
Part of the work that will be done includes refurbishment of the boundary wall, steel works, back up power, security system and office space.
Bhanga added that he will continue to mobilize resources from both himself, friends, the general public and business sector to assist the centre.
“We want to create a Caring City, caring about the people we serve, more especially the vulnerable, our animals, the environment will always be a critical pillar of the work that we do.”
