ISUZU Southern Kings players will be up early after their Guinness PRO14 Round 7 fixture on Friday, October 26, against the Scarlets at the Madibaz Stadium to lead 12 000 or more participants to Walk as One to show solidarity with those affected by cancer.
According to Isuzu Southern Kings chief operations officer, Charl Crous, the players are excited and looking forward to leading the 2018 Big Walk. “We will further show our support with the Isuzu Southern Kings playing their Guinness PRO14 match against Welsh side, Scarlets, in pink socks on the Friday night before the Big Walk,” said Crous.
On Saturday, October 27, the crowd, which is scheduled to include most of the members of the executive council of the Eastern Cape, will be entertained and led by a troupe of African drummers. Leading the pack will be the Kings’ players.
“We, as the Isuzu Southern Kings, are pleased to be part of this great initiative which marries well with our own #KingsCare campaign.
“As the Isuzu Southern Kings, we support the fight against cancer and we are happy to be part of a campaign that raises awareness about cancer.
“We encourage the public to support this wonderful initiative and also our important Guinness PRO14 match,” added Crous. According to the long-range weather predictions it will be a perfect day for the 5km walk along the beach-front, starting and ending at The Sun Boardwalk.
Participants wanting to add to the pinkness will be able to purchase pink doeks on the day from Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), which is this year’s beneficiary of the funds raised.
Funds raised by the 2018 Big Walk will go towards the purchase of a “FotoFinder” mole analyser.
Participants will be able to personalise their support for those affected by cancer, by writing on their walk numbers who it is they are walking for as one.
They can also sign on two Isuzu MU-X Adventure SUVs, which will be parked under the arch in the Second Avenue entrance to Sun Boardwalk.
The walk starts at 08:00 on Saturday, October 27.
Entry forms are available from Brian Bands in Cape Road, Total Sports stores in Port Elizabeth and Algoa FM.
An online entry portal is also available at www.algoafm.co.za.
Online entry fee for the 5km walk is R65, while manual entries cost R70.
