Two outstanding student leaders from Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School in Motherwell have each won R3 000 on 23 January in Boardwalk Casino and Hotel’s annual Trolley Dash competition, recognising their exceptional academic achievements and community leadership.

Head boy Qhama Ndibaza and head girl Thandolwethu Muki from Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School each spent about R2,900 for their trolleys.

Speaking to the Express, 18-year-old head girl Thandolwethu Muki said she was thrilled about her cash prize. “I was so nervous at the beginning,” she said after the trolley dash excitement.

Prior to the event, Muki had driven key school development initiatives including the Investec Social Challenge and participated in road safety advocacy.

When asked about her final year in high school, she said she was looking forward to enjoying grade 12. “I am going to work as hard as I can to achieve great marks.”

The 17-year-old head boy Qhama Ndibaza said he was very nervous and did not expect to grab so many items, which included an air fryer.

Ndibaza has also spearheaded the school’s march and drill team to a winning result in Cape Town and headed an award-winning air quality awareness project.
