Son of Park Drive burn victim (65) arrested for her murder

The son of the woman that died when her Park Drive flat went up in flames yesterday morning, September 13, has been found.

UPDATE | The son of the woman that died when her Park Drive flat in Gqeberha went up in flames yesterday, September 13, has been arrested for her murder.

The deceased has since been identified as Sharon Ann Butlion (65).

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.


Expresspreviously reported about the 65-year-old woman whose partially burnt body was found in the bedroom of her of her burning flat in Fernkloof in Park Drive.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that the investigation initially started as an inquest, however, evidence collected at the scene of the fire suggested that there could be foul play. Police are now investigating a case of murder.

According to Naidu, police recovered a white Ford Fiesta vehicle belonging to the deceased yesterday. The vehicle was found abandoned in Victoria Drive. Police did not want to identify the woman yet until they could trace her son.

This afternoon, September 14, Naidu said that the son was found by police and private security after they received information that he was spotted in a business area in 9th Avenue in Walmer.

“It is alleged that at about 12:00, the investigating officer, D/Const. Ridwaan Baatjies, responded to the call and found the son. He has been taken in for questioning,” Naidu said.
