A 27-year-old man was arrested in Uitenhage last night (Thursday) after allegedly assaulting and ultimately killing his mother.
At approximately 21:00, police in Kamesh attended to a complaint of assault at a house in the McCarthy Informal Settlement. Upon arrival at the scene, a woman was found with an open wound to her head. The 56-year-old victim was declared dead on the scene.
According to police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, the woman was allegedly repeatedly assaulted with a gas bottle. “The son was arrested and will be taken for medical observation. At this stage, it is unclear what had triggered the atrocity,” Swart said.
The suspect will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court soon on a charge of murder.
