GQEBERHA – A murder investigation was opened by SAPS after it confirmed a shooting incident that took place on Saturday, 3 January 2026, in KwaDwesi, leaving the Mhletywa family without answers as to what caused the shooting.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said that, according to preliminary information, at approximately 18:40, SAPS KwaDwesi responded to a complaint in Mbinza Street, KwaDwesi.
“On arrival, officers were informed that the deceased, Ntombizodwa Mhletywa (29), and her boyfriend had arrived home, and whilst he was inside the bathroom, someone knocked at the security gate.
She allegedly opened the door and soon thereafter, he heard three gunshots, went to investigate, and found his girlfriend deceased due to gunshot wounds,” Janse Van Rensburg said.
She added that the motive and the suspect are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
