Shooting incident in KwaZakhele results in six fatalities, police investigate

A team of detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating a case involving six counts of murder and attempted murder that occurred on Sunday, 12 January, on Kani Street, Veeplaas.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, the investigation follows after police were alerted to a shooting incident at KwaZakhele at about 22:15.

She said that upon their arrival at a house, they found the bodies of six males aged between 21 and 27 years, as well as an injured female who is 21 years old.

“She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“Information indicates that they were in a house when they were attacked by unknown armed suspects who shot at them.

“The motive for the shooting is unclear at the moment and will form part of the investigation.

“The case of murder and attempted murder has been opened at KwaZakhele SAPS and is being investigated by the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Investigation team,” she added. 

She reported that no arrests have been made yet. 

She further stated that the identities of the deceased cannot be released until formal identification has been finalised.
