Locality.

Three elderly women were found murdered in their separate homesteads at a location outside Lady Frere.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Brig.
Tembinkosi Kinana, neighbours of the victims, aged between 67 and 81 years, became
suspicious and concerned about the quietness in the homesteads where the women
lived.

“They started to investigate what was going on. It was then
that they discovered the women had been murdered in separate homesteads in the
village. Police were alerted to the incident by members of the community on
Friday, May 7 at approximately 9:00. The instrument used in the killings is yet
to be established as part of the ongoing investigation,” Kinana said.

Provincial police commissioner, Lt. Gen. Liziwe Ntshinga,
described the incident as shocking and disturbing.

“This is nothing but an act of crude and heartless
criminality preying on innocent people. Just as we arrested those who killed
people in a mob justice incident recently, those responsible for this callous
act will be found,” Ntshinga said.

The provincial commissioner has ordered a 72-hour activation
plan to mobilise all the necessary resources for effective investigations and
speedy arrest of the suspects. The motive for the murders is currently under investigation.

Police have registered three cases of murder for
investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of those
responsible for the gruesome murders is requested to contact the Lady Frere police
station or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10 111. Information received
will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
