Seven Sundowns introduces youth to judo

Multi-coded sports club, Seven Sundowns, introduced Motherwell NU 7 youth to judo on Monday.

Sensei Siphesande Maki approached the Motherwell NU 7 community to form the judo club under Seven Sundowns Sports Club.

According to Maki, the aim of establishing a judo club is to develop judo in children at an early age, to keep youth away from crime.

“Today, the youth are faced with a number of challenges that sometimes become their stumbling blocks,” said Maki. “Peer pressure has a bad influence sometimes. Car hijackings do happen in our communities, to mention a few. Some culprits face mob justice in our communities. My initiative of forming a judo club is to try that youth should not be the victims to a mob justice.”

Maki stated that the name of the club is Seven Sundowns Sports Club Fear Not Judo, as it is based at Motherwell NU 7.

“I am very happy that our sports community club is growing immensely. Today we have 20 children at our judo club. Our community rallies behind this judo club because they know that sport keeps their children away from involving themselves in criminal activities. We would like to take part in tournaments in the future,” concluded Maki.

The training sessions take place at Khulile Primary School Monday to Friday at 17:00.
