At least four people have died in separate accidents in Nelson Mandela Bay over the weekend.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra van Rensburg, the first accident occurred on Friday, March 31, at the corner of 11th Avenue and Buffelsfontein Road in Walmer.
“Police were alerted of the incident by the hospital after the 28-year-old victim passed away during the early hours of Saturday morning,” said Janse van Rensburg.
On Saturday, April 1, at approximately 23:20, at Sigila Street in Kwanobuhle, the body of a 30-year-old man was found trapped under a blue VW Golf.
“On the same day, the hospital alerted SAPS Kabega Park of the death of an accident victim who had been brought in for treatment. It is alleged that the 31-year-old male was involved in a motorcycle accident on the N2 freeway near Blue Horizon Bay.”
Janse van Rensburg added that the last accident occurred today, April 2, at approximately 00:05. It is alleged that a 31-year-old driver of a grey VW Polo was travelling on the N2 freeway Cotswold towards Stanford Road when he collided with the bridge. He died on the scene.
Cases of culpable homicide are under investigation, and the names of all the deceased will be released once a formal identification is made.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata has warned motorists to be responsible during the busy Easter weekend.
“Maximum law enforcement will be monitoring the roads, the N2 freeway, beaches and hotspot areas, ensuring that everyone enjoys a safe Easter as well as arriving alive at their intended destinations,” said Ncata.
