The body of a security guard was found floating in the Newton Park Swimming Pool during the early hours of this morning, April 11.
The South African National Aquatics Championship is currently being held at this facility.
Two guards were on duty to guard the equipment used in the championship yesterday. The place was empty and at approximately 02:30 this morning, one of the guards heard a noise on the opposite side of the pool where her 45-year-old colleague was seated.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that since it was dark inside, the guard contacted and informed her supervisor. “When police and her supervisor arrived, the complainant came out and discovered her colleague floating in the pool,” Naidu said.
“There were no signs of any break-in nor was there anything taken from the premises,” she added.
Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation.
