NTABANKULU – A second teacher has died from injuries sustained when a former colleague shot three female teachers at Ntabankulu Primary School in Ntabankulu on 22 January.
The dismissed teacher, out on bail for sexual assault charges, killed himself after the attack.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, following the death of the second teacher, two teachers have now died with one remaining teacher in critical condition in hospital.
As previously reported, it is alleged that at approximately noon, the former teacher forcibly gained entry to the premises by cutting through the perimeter fence.
She said that the suspect proceeded directly to the school kitchen, where he opened fire on three teachers and then turned the gun on himself.
Elaborating further on the suspect, Gantana said that he was a former teacher at the school who was dismissed in 2023 following sexual assault charges and was out on bail for those charges.
“The investigation is now being conducted under the following case classifications which include two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one inquest docket,” said Gantana.
She said that the investigation into the full circumstances of the attack continues.
