Only seven people have died in the KwaZakhele mass shooting on Sunday and not eight as police had previously said.

In the initial media statement, police said that seven people died at the scene and one person died in hospital.

However, this afternoon, February 1, the police corrected their initial statement.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that police were informed that one of the injured people taken to hospital had died. “The identity of this person was not known and when investigators visited the hospital January 31 to confirm his identity, they were informed that he is very critical and unconscious but has not passed away,” she said.

The total number of deceased is now seven with four people injured.

The investigation is ongoing as is the hunt for the suspects.
