Two Gqeberha men have been hospitalised following an alleged mob justice incident in Sidwell, Gqeberha on Tuesday, March 26.
Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg of the South African Police Services confirmed this, saying SAPS Algoa Park responded to a complaint in Kempston Road, Sidwell. On arrival they found one male that was badly assaulted. A second male was already transported to hospital.
“At this stage it is unclear who assaulted the two males. According to information on the scene it was alleged that the two males attempted to rob a community member and they were assaulted by the community. However no one reported an attempted robbery. The investigation is ongoing,” Van Rensburg added.
Both males were taken to hospital for treatment.
A video of the alleged stoning of the two victims has been making the rounds on social media.
