The South African National Zakah Fund office, based in Port Elizabeth, is offering a variety of programmes aimed at alleviating poverty and food insecurity for under resourced communities.
In an effort to combat the devastating effects the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on low income household communities, SANZAF is currently hosting Operation Winter Warmth.
This is a national initiative, which aims at ensuring that relief is provided to those deemed the most vulnerable in society, through outreach programmes that provide those in need with hot food, blankets and winter care packs which include jackets, beanies and scarves.
On July 9, SANZAF catered 300 children with a soup kitchen in Bethelsdorp. This initiative is part of the winter warmth feeding scheme for children attending the Siyaanatul Muslimeen Madressah based in Extension 34.
A soup kitchen serves the children every Tuesday and Wednesday.
SANZAF also distributes winter warmth food parcels for the children to take home.
