IN preparation for the month of Ramadan, the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) office in Gqeberha hosted its annual Operation Fitrah Packing in Parkside on May 8.

SANZAF is a registered non-profit, public-benefit and faith-based organisation that aims at changing and improving the lives of under resourced South Africans and empowering local communities through educational assistance and skills development.

Countrywide, their aim is to serve one million warm meals during the month of Ramadan, ensuring that beneficiaries have nutritious meals to break their fast with. Through partnerships with Masjids throughout South Africa, 27 000 people will benefit from Fitrah food aid hampers.

Regional chairperson, Aziez Madatt, said, “SANZAF’s dedicated staff and volunteers have been preparing in anticipation of the busiest period and are raring to go.

“We are confident our national Iftar, Suhur and Fitrah programmes will make a significant impact this Ramadan as we continue to bring hope to hundreds of thousands around the country.”

On May 8, 500 Fitrah parcels were packed and distributed to families who are beneficiaries of the food security programme which SANZAF provides to its recipients every month in Kariega and Gqeberha.
