SANRAL reopens N2 in Gqeberha after sea debris disruptions: Traffic, weather update

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has reopened the N2 highway between John Tallant and Settlers Way in Gqeberha. The road was temporarily closed yesterday, August 22, after sea debris caused disruptions, affecting motorists.

Commuters were caught in a traffic jam that stretched for meters, causing significant delays. 

A video captured by a resident shows a long line of vehicles barely moving.

According to a statement released by SANRAL today, motorists are still advised to drive with caution and to follow the instructions of traffic officials on the scene, who may decide to close the section near the dolosse.

“SANRAL will continue to monitor the section at high tide and work with traffic officials
to ensure motorists drive under safe conditions,” the statement added.

Although tides were disruptive on August 22, today, August 23, Gqeberha residents can enjoy clear skies throughout most of the day, with a slight increase in cloud cover by the evening, according to WeatherSA

The temperatures will range from a cool 9°C in the early morning to a warm 25°C in the afternoon. Winds will be moderate, coming from the northeast. No rain is expected today, and the sunset will be at 17:54.

For the weekend, residents can expect varying weather conditions. 

On Saturday, August 24, expect a mix of clouds and rain showers. The early morning will be partly cloudy with a temperature of 21°C and winds from the west at 28 km/h. By 08:00, it will turn cloudy with a temperature of 17°C and winds shifting to the west-southwest. In the afternoon, cloudy conditions will persist with a temperature of 18°C and southwest winds. By 20:00, rain showers are expected with a temperature of 15°C and winds from the west-southwest at 19 km/h.The day’s temperatures will range from a minimum of 13°C to a maximum of 22°C, with a rain amount of 3 mm and a 30% chance of rain. Sunrise is at 06:45 and sunset at 17:55.

On Sunday, August 25, expect a mix of slight rain, cloudy skies, and partly cloudy conditions. Early morning at 02:00, there will be slight rain with 75% humidity and winds from the west-southwest at 19 km/h, with a temperature of 14°C. By 08:00, the rain continues with the same humidity, winds shifting to the west at 9 km/h, and the temperature remaining at 14°C. In the afternoon at 14:00, it will be cloudy with 65% humidity, southeast winds at 9 km/h, and a temperature of 18°C. By 20:00, expect partly cloudy skies with 80% humidity, east-northeast winds at 19 km/h, and a temperature of 15°C. The day’s temperatures will range from a minimum of 11°C to a maximum of 20°C, with 3 mm of rain and a 30% chance of rain. Sunrise is at 06:44 and sunset at 17:56.

Gqeberha residents should be prepared for varying weather conditions and keep an umbrella handy.
